Some years ago, Ghana’s youth teams were the pride of the nation. They lifted the flag extremely high in any competition. But today, the story is different. They have consistently failed to qualify to participate at the top level.
When we watch the Black Starlets, Meteors and Satellites today, we can’t help but to miss the days of Awudu Issaka, Awuley QuayeJunior, Daniel Addo, Peter Ofori Quaye, and many more that made Ghana proud at the top level.
There was a time when countries like Brazil, Argentina, England, etc panicked at the fact that they had to face Ghana’s youth side. One could easily predict that Ghana would reach the peak at any world competition. However, that glory now belongs to Nigeria’s youth team.
The Nigerian side has consistently performed exceptionally well at the top level. They have successfully defended the world title by beating Mali by 2 goals to nothing.
The Ghana Football Association must really sit up and concentrate on our youth teams. This is the only way we can continue to feed the senior national team with quality players.
For what exist now, if the current generation of the Black Stars exit, it will be very difficult to have quality players to step into their shoes.
